Guaranteed place or own place runner?

What is a guaranteed place?

Help the Hospices has 150 guaranteed places in the Flora London Marathon 2008. These are places that have been given to us by the race organizers.
We ask all runners interested in doing the marathon on our behalf to apply through the normal entry process. This involves filling in the Official Entry Form in the official race magazine, ‘Marathon News’ - a free magazine available from all major sports retailers from August 1st 2007. By early December you will find out if you have been successful. This is known as the ballot process.

Aside from the ballot, we allocate our guaranteed places to runners who register their details with us. Places are allocated between August and Christmas - if you have been unsuccessful in the ballot, you will be considered for one of our guaranteed places instead.

Although we are not asking runners to commit to raising a set amount, we are suggesting that a total of £1800 is something to aim for, and then hopefully go on to exceed!

What is an own place runner?

An own place runner is someone who has gone through the entry process and has been successful in gaining a place through the ballot. We would really appreciate you running for us if you have been fortunate enough to get a place this way and will assure you the same level of support that we give to our ‘guaranteed place’ runners.

Our Sunflower Runners Team on the day itself will be made up of a combination of ‘guaranteed place’ and ‘own place’ runners.
